Trane Residential Systems Wins Prestigious Home Builder's Award
One of just six brands honored three times as a "Partner of Choice" by David Weekley Homes

Tyler, TX, August 20, 2007 – One of the nation’s largest home builders has honored Trane for the third year in a row for both product quality and customer service.

David Weekley Homes, the third-largest, privately owned homebuilder in America, awarded Trane its prestigious “Partners of Choice Award.” The award is based on David Weekley’s quarterly National Trading Partners Survey where employees rate more than 150 suppliers. Approximately 1,000 team members at all levels at David Weekley Homes participate over the course of a year, including builders, project managers, warranty service, design center, administrative, and executive team members. Each supplier’s numeric scores are averaged, and then an alpha rating is assigned relative to its ranking with other national trading partners at David Weekley Homes. Alpha ratings range from A to F in 20% increments.
Based on this comprehensive survey, Trane is one of only six companies to achieve a Double A rating—“A” for both Quality and Service—for three consecutive years and one of 10 to achieve the ranking for the last twelve months.
“This puts Trane in the top one-half of one percent of all our vendors,” said Bill Justus, vice president of Supply Chain Services for David Weekley Homes. “For Trane and its supply chain partners to achieve an A rating in both Quality and Service for three consecutive years is remarkable.”
Justus created the unique supplier rating system to achieve alignment of all parties within the supply chain. Justus noted similarities among repeat winners, including:
  • Appointing a senior executive as champion of the survey within the company.
  • Treating the survey as a project by assigning individual roles and responsibilities.
  • Institutionalizing processes in support of the survey’s feedback.
Don Wood, Trane manager of national builder accounts, confirmed this process within Trane, noting that Trane reviews quarterly results with dealers and distributors in David Weekley’s trading areas. “Being recognized three years in a row is a tremendous honor for Trane, our distributors and our dealers,” Wood said. “Our entire supply chain is driven to provide an outstanding experience for our customers through our innovative products and our commitment to service.”
Trane has been a supplier to David Weekley Homes for more than eight years. “As three year Winners of our Partners of Choice Award, Trane has demonstrated through their actions that they are among the best of the best,” Justus said.
