What’s Next for Residential HVAC Systems?

Trane will continue to supply refrigerant for your existing HVAC equipment, but when your HVAC system requires service, you may need to  decide whether to repair your current system, or replace it with a new one that uses more eco-friendly refrigerant. Our HVAC pros can help you decide what’s best for you and your home.

Making Comfort More Sustainable

For years, air conditioners, heat pumps, and other HVAC equipment used refrigerant called R-410A. Now, HVAC systems manufactured after January 1, 2025 are required to use refrigerants with low global warming potential.

New Trane HVAC systems will use R-454B refrigerant. R-454B helps our systems achieve zero ozone depletion potential and a 78% reduction in global warming potential compared to traditional refrigerants.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been testing R-454B in our products for years to ensure they deliver superior performance while withstanding the elements. R-454B is designed to meet current and future refrigerant regulations, so you can be comfortable for years to come.

Unlock Savings with Increased Efficiency

Many of our new products, like heat pumps, operate even more efficiently than their predecessors. These new efficiencies mean that many of our heat pump systems now qualify for incentives as part of the Inflation Reduction Act’s Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit, which helps you save on installation costs. Plus, installing a more efficient HVAC system can help lower your monthly utility bills over time.

Cutting-Edge Safety Features

Every product that leaves our factory floors has to meet our high standards of sustainability, efficiency, and safety. Learn more about our new Refrigerant Detection System, designed to help ensure safe performance without sacrificing whole-home comfort.

To Replace, Or Not to Replace?

Learn how Trane and its network of dealers will continue to service older HVAC equipment, and whether it’s best to repair your existing system or replace it with a more efficient one.
