Trane’s Best Air Purifiers
Learn about Trane’s best air purifiers and how these whole-house air cleaners can help you and your family breathe easier. Whether you need to find the best air purifier for pets, allergies, mold, or smoke, we have a solution.
By Anne Fonda
Recognizing that people who suffer from allergies or respiratory conditions need a whole-home air purification solution, Trane did the research and product development needed to deliver the best whole-house air purifier solutions.
But you don’t need to suffer from allergies or a respiratory condition to benefit from a whole-house air purifier. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), poor indoor air quality (IAQ) can cause immediate and long-term negative effects for even the healthiest of people.
Of special concern are tiny particles 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller – at least 5 times smaller than the width of a human hair. You can inhale these particles deep into your lungs, where they can cause serious health problems. Reducing or eliminating particulate matter from the indoor air you breathe can help protect your and your family's health.
What Makes Our Home Air Purifiers the Best
Our air purifiers deliver cleaner air to your entire home - not just one room like a portable unit does. Trane’s patented air filtration systems connect to your home’s HVAC system to filter out up to 99.98% of airborne particles. Standard 1” air filters just can’t compete.
Trane has two air purification systems: the QuikBox™ Air Cleaner and the CleanEffects® Whole Home Air Cleaner Both systems offer:
- Advanced filtration
- Effective removal of allergens and pollutants
- Quiet operation for undisturbed sleep and relaxation
Keep reading to learn more about the features of each system to find the best air purifier for allergies, pets, mold, smoke, and other pollutants.
Understanding MERV Ratings
Before we go much further, it will be helpful if you understand something about air filter ratings, more commonly known as MERV ratings. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values. It’s a rating system for filter effectiveness that ranges from 1 to 16. The higher the number, the better the filter is at capturing the smallest particles.
Size Matters
The best air purifiers or air cleaners capture even the smallest of particles, measured in microns. A micron (micrometer) is equal to one-millionth of a meter. The symbol for a micron is μm. One micron = 0.000001 meters (or 0.00004 inches).
The smallest particle the naked eye can see is about 40 microns, slightly smaller than the width of a human hair, which measures between 50-70 microns. Most airborne contaminants are not visible to the naked eye.
Best Value: The QuikBox™Air Cleaner
For the best value, we recommend the QuikBox™ Air Cleaner. It offers high-efficiency filtration to better remove dust, pet dander, and other allergy and asthma triggers—and even greatly reduce airborne viruses and bacteria. It’s a simple and affordable option to upgrade your indoor air quality, with multiple options to meet your needs. It integrates seamlessly with your Trane HVAC system to provide a whole-home solution for cleaner, safer air.
Some highlights:
- Up to 20 times more effective than a standard 1” filter
- Thicker filters last up to 6 months (compared to 30-60 days for a standard filter)
- Easy to replace
- May prolong the life of your HVAC system without reducing efficiency
- Suitable for homes up to 4,500 sq, ft.
Available in Two Tiers
The QuikBox™ Air Cleaner is available in two tiers - Premium and Superior. Can we use the table from the brochure that compares them with a standard filter? Recreated table here if we can’t. Delete the table if you insert the image.
While the systems can greatly reduce contaminants such as viruses and bacteria, they cannot completely remove them.
Most Effective: The CleanEffects® Whole Home Air Cleaner
For the ultimate in home air purification, we recommend the Trane CleanEffects® Whole Home Cleaner. It offers technologically advanced cleaning to remove some of the smallest contaminants from the air in your home.
Trane CleanEffects® uses a powerful, patented ifD corona field to charge incoming air, causing particles to adhere to the CleanEffects collection cells as air passes through. The Trane CleanEffects collection element is ground-breaking Think of it as a sort of magnet that can draw particles out of the air with its polarized force and capture/retain them in the collection cell until cleaned.
Some system highlights:
- Up to 100 times more effective than a standard 1” filter
- Traps particles as small as .3 microns without reducing system efficiency
- Removes 99.98% of allergens and contaminants
- Zero ozone emissions
- Can reduce the need to dust by 50%
- Certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA)
- Reusable, cleanable filter
Superior Clean Air Delivery Rate
The CleanEffects® Whole Home Cleaner offers a superior clean air delivery rate (CADR). The CADR refers to an air purifier or air cleaner’s effectiveness at removing airborne contaminants. The higher the number, the more effective the unit is.

Customized Air Cleaning and Diagnostics
If you have the Trane Home App, you can customize your air cleaning beyond the standard settings. You can run the Clean Air cycle from the app to remove dust, allergens, and other particles. This can be especially helpful in keeping heavy pollen or wildfire smoke in the air outdoors from entering your home through your HVAC system.
Clean Air Cycle Modes
Within the Trane Home App, you can set the clean air cycle mode within the Climate section. There are three settings:
- Auto: This mode will operate the fan and air cleaner whenever the heating or cooling is running.
- Quick: This mode will operate the air cleaner and run the fan at full speed for 3 hours even if the heating or cooling is not running.
- Allergy: This mode will operate the air cleaner and run the fan at full speed for 24 hours even if the heating and cooling system is not currently running.
Trane Diagnostics
When you install the CleanEffects® Whole Home Cleaner as part of a Trane Communicating HVAC system, your system continuously performs a loop of system diagnostics and outputs data.
If you opt into Trane Diagnostics through the Trane Home App, you can grant remote access to your HVAC system. The system monitors itself and quickly identifies any operational faults, automatically issuing a service alert to your local dealer. In some cases, your HVAC dealer can diagnose, fix, and even prevent problems.
