You’re familiar with telehealth - where you meet with a healthcare provider virtually. They ask you some questions, diagnose your issue, maybe write a prescription, and you’re on the road to recovery.

Trane Diagnostics is like that, only for your HVAC system.

What is Trane Remote Diagnostics?

Trane Diagnostics is an added feature you can opt into through the Trane Home App. It allows your preferred Trane dealer to monitor your HVAC system remotely. Your remote diagnostics-enabled Trane smart thermostat sends the data in real time via the mobile app.

It’s important to note that the WiFi thermostat must be a Trane product. We offer Trane's WiFi Thermostas which are compatible with Trane Choice Equipment as well as Trane's premier equipment. Trane Diagnostics is not compatible with other smart thermostat brands.

Good news for those new to Trane - your HVAC system doesn’t have to be a Trane system to benefit from Trane Diagnostics. As long as you have a Trane smart thermostat and have the Trane Home App, you can opt into remote diagnostics. For instance, the XL824 smart thermostat is compatible with virtually all conventional HVAC systems and is Trane Home-enabled.

Visit Trane Home Support to find step-by-step directions to Opt In or Opt Out of Trane Diagnostics via the Trane Home App.

How Trane Diagnostics works

You opt in once and then the HVAC remote monitoring starts. Your thermostat sends all kinds of real-time data to your dealer via the app. They monitor this data remotely, essentially giving your Trane technician support every day of the year - even when you’re on vacation.

Key features and benefits of Trane Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics

A key feature and benefit of Trane Diagnostics remote HVAC monitoring is that it is a free tool for both you and your dealer. It’s true. It provides you with peace of mind and saves your dealer time and money.

Once this HVAC remote monitoring system is active, your dealer knows exactly what is going on with your system at any given time. They can see:

  • HVAC system configuration
  • The schedule you have programmed in
  • Temperature and humidity statistics and trends

Your dealer automatically receives system alerts for routine maintenance as well as alerts of system malfunctions. They can run troubleshooting tests remotely to try and diagnose the issue.

Remote diagnostics means you can get Trane support before you even notice a problem.

If the problem requires an on-site service call, your dealer will contact you to schedule a time that’s convenient for you. With the knowledge gleaned from remote diagnostics, the HVAC technician will show up with the right parts and get right to work, without needing to spend a lot of time troubleshooting the issue.

In some cases, the dealer may be able to fix an issue without coming to your home.

Dealer remote access

If your dealer believes they can solve a problem remotely, without scheduling an in-person HVAC service call, they will request one-time dealer remote access (DRA) to your HVAC system. This request will be through the app.

If you would like to eliminate the need for an on-site service call and the interruptions that means to your schedule, you simply grant access via the Trane Home App. Once the remote service call is complete, your dealer ends the remote access session. If by some chance they forget, the session times out.

If you’ve ever worked in an office and had a problem with a work-supplied computer, you may be familiar with how remote diagnostics/remote access works. You call the support desk or fill out a support ticket. At some point, an IT tech contacts you and either walks you through the fix, or they take control of your computer through remote access and fix the problem.

It’s like magic.

If an HVAC problem requires an on-site service call, your dealer will contact you to schedule a time that’s convenient for you. With the knowledge gleaned from remote diagnostics, the HVAC technician will show up with the right parts and get right to work, without needing to spend a lot of time troubleshooting the issue.

Find a Trane dealer near you

If you already work with a Trane dealer, simply enter their information into the Home App section where you opt-in to Trane Diagnostics. If you’re new to the area or want to upgrade to a smart thermostat or new system, use our dealer locator to find one or more dealers near you.

Then schedule a consultation (or more than one). Once you have your smart thermostat, you can download the Trane Home App and get started on the road to hassle-free service and proactive problem-solving.

We’re serious about your security.

Trane Diagnostics only lets your dealer access information about how your HVAC system is performing. Your dealer will not get access to any other device in your home, including devices connected to the Trane Home app. Your data remains encrypted.
