HVAC remote access lets you control your HVAC system in real-time from anywhere, at any time. When your system is equipped with a smart thermostat (aka Wi-Fi thermostat), you can access your system remotely via your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. It’s like a long-distance remote control.
HVAC remote access for the homeowner works similarly for most smart thermostats – it starts with an app. With a Trane smart thermostat, HVAC control is at your fingertips. You first access this through the Trane Home App.
You simply download it to your smartphone from Google Play or the Apple App Store. You can also access the Trane Home website if you’re not using your phone. Once you’re in the app, you’ll be prompted to set things up the way you want them.
You can also set up your smart thermostat at the unit itself. Then, simply access the app to change the temperature or fan settings.
The Home App is also compatible with Amazon’s Alexa® and Google Home® voice assistants. Watching a movie and suddenly you’re cold but don’t want to get up and adjust the thermostat? Tell Alexa® to raise the temperature.
HVAC remote access benefits include:
What’s not to like? And with a Trane smart thermostat, there are even more benefits.
If you opt-in to Trane Diagnostics via the Trane Home App, you give your favorite local Trane dealer remote monitoring access to your system. You only have to opt in once. Click on the previous link to find step-by-step directions for enabling Trane Diagnostics.
Once you have opted in, the dealer can see what’s going on with your system at any point in time, as well as temperature and humidity trends, your programmed schedule, etc.
They will automatically receive alerts for routine maintenance as well as potential issues with your system. This allows your dealer to spot problems while they are still small before they turn into big problems. Read our Trane Diagnostics guide for more detailed information.
If your dealer spots or is alerted to a problem, they will notify you and may request a one-time dealer remote configuration (DRC). You can grant or deny dealer remote access via the Home App. Remote access allows your dealer to tap into your Trane smart thermostat remotely to troubleshoot or even fix a problem.
If they can fix the issue remotely, they will. Otherwise, they will schedule on-site repairs. The HVAC technician will arrive with the correct parts and won’t need to spend time troubleshooting the issue. This can save both you and the HVAC company time and money.
Remote access ends once the dealer has completed the work.
