Real-life Connected Service Success Stories

Connected Mechanical Service represents the next generation of how Trane does mechanical service. Explore these two real-life situations.

Connected Mechanical Service represents the next generation of how Trane does mechanical service.  It supports completing maintenance at the right time, not just at a scheduled time. Connected Mechanical Service helps to successfully detect and mitigate issues in Commercial HVAC equipment and help improve performance for HVAC equipment.

These two real-life mechanical oversight situations highlight different equipment, the CenTraVac® Chiller and IntelliPak® units.

Customer Win with Connected Mechanical Service: High School Building

Equipment

Trane CenTraVac® Chiller & Competitor Controls

Challenge

The High School 's chiller operation was not optimal.

Solution

We were able to demonstrate Connected Mechanical Service to help show the Digital Inspection Toolbox and the value Trane can provide. During a mechanical inspection, and while leveraging the Digital Inspection Toolbox, we were able to help show high school maintenance staff that the controls strategy in place was affecting the chiller operation at their site.

Results

During the contract renewal period, Connected Mechanical Service was added to all of the high school’s service agreements with Trane U.S. Inc. to achieve a high efficiency HVAC strategy.

Customer Win with Connected Mechanical Service: Commercial Building Customer

Equipment

Trane IntelliPak® Rooftop Unit

Challenge

The customer’s building was not reaching the set temperature for interior cooling. The supply air temperature was unstable during the IntelliPak operation. Even in high load conditions (outside air above 90 degrees), only one stage of cooling was cycling, which is a possible indicator of an airflow issue.

Solution

The Trane technician recommended to increase the airflow at Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes to help allow more airflow through the IntelliPak’s evaporator coil for better evaporator operation. The VAV boxes are an important part of the HVAC system as they help to regulate the temperature in large rooms in commercial buildings by utilizing dampers, controllers and heat sources.

Results

Connected Mechanical Service was part of the IntelliPak service agreement. A Trane technician was able to show in a report the value of the issue detection and rapid diagnosis to a solution.

In summary, the Connected Mechanical Service Agreement, helps allow the technicians to remedy issues by evaluating the dataset from the equipment. The total cost of ownership with the maintenance oversight when it was necessary – not waiting for a scheduled maintenance visit – helped lower the costs and increased performance.
