Software Support Lifecycle
The Situation
The pace of technology innovation continues to accelerate and it’s more important than ever to maximize the value of your software investments. Trane is your committed partner for delivering a seamless experience as tools advance and your support needs evolve.
For this reason, we are implementing a new software lifecycle policy to provide you with visibility into our software suite transition timelines, allowing you and your teams adequate notice to make the most informed decision for your business needs. This policy will go into effect April 1, 2022.
Key Terminology
This policy includes some new terminology including:
End of New Product Sales (EONPS) – The date after which new licenses of the software product will no longer be available for purchase. License renewals with support and maintenance updates will remain available until the product reaches End of Service and Support.
End of Service and Support (EOSS) – The date after which C.D.S. support services and software maintenance updates will no longer be available for the product. Extended software renewal licenses may be purchased after this date and until the product reaches End of Life. Only products designated to be sunset may have an End of Service and Support date.
End of Life (EOL) – The date after which the software product can no longer be used or licensed.
The Policy
Under this policy, every C.D.S. licensed software product version will have a lifecycle as defined in the table below. The lifecycle begins when the product version is released (e.g. publicly available from our website) and ends when the product version reaches its End of Life. Knowing key dates in your product lifecycle will help you make informed decisions about when to update, upgrade, or make other adjustments to your software licenses.
To help make your planning easier, all software versions released after the effective date for this policy (April 1, 2022) will include service and support for 2 years from the date the product became available through our website. For older versions of actively licensed products, support will consist only of transition/upgrade to the most current version of the product or to migrate/update files to the latest version of the product currently available.
This life cycle policy is in addition to the End User License Agreement (EULA) included with every C.D.S. installed software license.
Extended Renewal Licensing Options
Beginning January 1, 2023, Trane will no longer offer new licenses for the Trane Design Suite. However, new extended renewal licensing options will be made available for TRACE 700, System Analyzer and Design Suite, including:
Annual extended license renewal options available through 2027, allowing continued usage of your design tool subscriptions into 2028
Support and maintenance updates will not be included in the subscription

Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be able to purchase new TRACE® 700 Family, System Analyzer, or Design Suite product subscriptions after 2022?
The TRACE 700 family of products have not been available for new purchase since January 1, 2020. The extended renewal subscription will be the only option available for each of these products beginning January 1, 2023.
Will webservice still be available to run files in addition to the extended license option?
There is no plan to provide a webservice to run files once the extended renewal option is made available in 2023. However, we may revisit this service possibility in the future if there is significant customer demand.
What if I need to generate results for legal or other purposes from a TRACE 3D Plus file that is older than 2 years (no longer supported)?
We highly recommend archiving the desired results in a PDF format and storing them with the TRACE archive file. In addition, a special request can be made to the support center to get results for non-supported older file versions for legal purposes. Troubleshooting or other support beyond migration to the latest version will not be provided for files versions that are older than 2 years. An exception to this would be if a new version has not been released within a 2-year time frame.
What happens if a computer operating system or other software update causes an extended renewal subscription to no longer function?
Some of the infrastructural components of these sunset platforms are no longer supported by the company that produced them. Since the extended renewal subscription does not include support or maintenance updates, it is the customer's responsibility to ensure any updates to their computer (for security or other purposes) do not cause a failure in their extended renewal products.
What will be my options if requested to open and “do a quick run” beyond the End of Life sunset for any of these products?
The extended renewal subscription will be available through 2027. We highly recommend archiving the desired results in a PDF format and storing them with the archive file. There are no current plans to provide access to open and run files for products that are beyond their anniversary expiration End of Life documented in the table above.
If my license renewal lapses beyond the 90-day grace period, will I still be able to renew my extended subscription?
Yes, but only up to one full year from the renewal lapse (e.g. two years of renewals are due). After that there will be no option to re-purchase or renew the expired subscription. This logic is built directly into the online order entry system at shop.trane.com. The renewal button will no longer be available if the subscription renewal is behind by 2 years or more.
If we have issues installing TRACE 700, will support be provided to release a workstation license or create additional installation seats?
Yes, our customer service team will provide support for subscription-based changes like adding or removing seats.
Our retention period for our clients goes beyond 2028, how are we to open legacy files after the maintenance period ends in 2028?
We highly recommend archiving the desired results in a PDF format and storing them with the archive file. There are no current plans to provide access to open, modify, and run files for products that are beyond their anniversary expiration End of Life documented in the table above. Transitioning to TRACE 3D Plus as soon as possible will help mitigate risk in this area.
How does the lifecycle policy impact annual Academic product licenses since renewals do not apply to this license type?
Academic licenses for all products moving into their End of Service and Support (EOSS) lifecycle phase will continue to be available for purchase through the end of 2023. Currently, the new extended license offering does not apply to annual academic licenses. We are actively soliciting feedback to meet the needs of our academic customers. Please contact our customer service team if you have the need for academic versions of any EOSS products beyond 2024.
