Watt's in the News? - Volume 25

One of the benefits of using energy as a theme for PBL/WBL is that it truly brings an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning. This real-world application involves science, math, economics, and politics all in the same lesson, taking us back to Barry Commoner’s Law of Ecology – “Everything is connected to everything else.”

Following up from last week’s newsletter focused on decarbonization, here is the latest news at the national level regarding this topic:

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY ANNOUNCES $121 MILLION TO REDUCE EMISSIONS ACROSS AMERICA’S INDUSTRIAL SECTOR | Department of Energy

Long before this initiative was ever announced, Trane Technologies made a commitment to The Gigaton Challenge. Started in 2019, the Gigaton Challenge is the first-of-its-kind climate commitment related to customer product use of any business-to-business company. It guides our mission to change the way the world heats and cools buildings and moves refrigerated cargo. To achieve our Gigaton Challenge, we are taking action to reduce our customer carbon emissions from the use of our products and services from a 2019 baseline through 2030. Four levers provide the largest opportunity for customer decarbonization and will help us achieve the Gigaton Challenge.
