Department of Education School Infrastructure and Sustainability Effort Commitment

We're committing to advance school sustainability, encompassing infrastructure, health, environmental sustainability education, climate, and environmental justice in America.

In February 2023, the U.S. Department of Education invited national, regional, and local non-profits, foundations, businesses, and community-based organizations to share their bold commitments to advancing infrastructure and sustainability priorities:

  • Ensuring equitable access to healthy, safe, sustainable, 21st century, physical learning environments.
  • Developing, maintaining, and providing environmental, sustainability learning, education such as climate literacy, green workforce development, and outdoor learning.
  • Building capacity for infrastructure, sustainability, environmental justice, and climate mitigation and adaptation in schools.

Trane Technologies, in alignment with its brand, Trane — a building technology and energy solutions company — is proud to be one of the first energy services companies to join the Department of Education initiative to promote school infrastructure and sustainability.

We have joined over 30 organizations in committing to advance school sustainability, encompassing infrastructure, health, environmental sustainability education, climate, and environmental justice in America.

As part of Trane Technologies’ 2030 Sustainability Commitments, we are investing $100 million and 500,000 employee volunteer hours over the next decade to support the current generation of learners.

In 2021, Trane Technologies launched Sustainable Futures, a multiyear, corporate citizenship strategy, focused on uplifting and engaging students from underrepresented communities throughout their educational journeys in the following areas:

  • Optimize learning environments through delivery of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) solutions and access to health food.
  • Accelerating student success via early education to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and sustainability concepts to under-represented populations, enhancing childhood literacy.
  • Expanding Career Pathways by exposing students and diverse workers to energy, manufacturing, engineering, and technical careers. Expanding collaborations with industry leading organizations such as NC3 to provide access to green and STEM careers.

“Sustainability and supporting learners in achieving their long-term goals is at the heart of what we do,” said Mike Hines, National Education Leader with Trane,” These young people have the potential to transform our way of life – and our world. We are proud to share our commitment to further support Dept of Education efforts to bring more awareness and help create improved school infrastructures.”
